Streamwood was founded in 1957 and celebrated its 40th anniversary in 1997. Today the Village is a bustling town of about 35,000 residents who represent all economic levels and cultural backgrounds.

The Village Board
The President and six Trustees compose the Village Board. They and the Village Clerk, are elected at large and are representatives of the Village citizens. The President and the members of the Board compose the legislative body of the Village and enact all ordinances, determine goals and objectives and establish legislative policy. The day-to-day operations of the Village is supervised by a Village Manager who is appointed by the President and Board of Trustees to serve as Chief Administrative Officer of the Village.
